Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Career Studies Certificates are designed to give you specific jobs skills in a short period of time. Credits earned in certificate programs may count toward associate degree requirements.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
Develop the ability to comprehend, apply, and evaluate the clinical information relevant to your role as an entry-level EMT. Upon completion of the program, you will be eligible for National Registry testing resulting in National Registry certification as well as certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Additional tuition assistance is available for students in this program through G3.
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician Career Studies Certificate (AEMT)
This 20-credit program can be completed in two semesters: first semester is Emergency Medical Technician or “EMT” and second semester is Advanced Emergency Medical Technician or “AEMT." Students must successfully complete EMT certification prior to beginning the AEMT course. Students who are currently certified as an EMT can complete the remaining requirements (12 credits) in one semester. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible for National Registry testing, resulting in National Registry certification as well as certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia for Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. Paramedic Career Studies Certificate
This 28-credit program can be completed in two semesters. Students must currently be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to enroll. Advanced placement will be considered for currently certified Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) and EMT-Intermediates. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible for National Registry testing, resulting in National Registry certification as well as certification in the Commonwealth of Virginia for Paramedic. Additional tuition assistance is available for students in this program through G3.
Mobile Integrated Healthcare/Community Paramedicine
Mobile Integrated Healthcare (MIH) and Community Paramedicine (CP) Programs are increasing in number to provide care for patients outside of the hospital and clinical setting. These programs provide support for chronic disease management and provide connections with primary care providers, mental health services, and substance abuse services. Upon successful completion of the MIH/CP Course, students will receive a certificate of completion, providing them with greater employment opportunities in this growing and advancing field. Students will also be prepared to take the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC) to become a Certified Community Paramedic.
